ABSTRACT: In this prospective study, routine bronchoscopy was performed in 26 newborn babies with esophageal atresia and tracheo-esophageal fistula (EA & TEF) prior to thoracotomy for repair and the results were compared to 25 babies where repair was done without prior bronchoscopy. Pre-operative bronchoscopy. Pre-operative bronchoscopy provided significant information and reduced the postoperative pulmonary complications but did not alter the survival retes in EA & TEF.
